The Alma City Commission consists of a Mayor, Vice-Mayor and five City Commissioners. City Commission elections are held in November of even years, with the next election scheduled for November 2018. All Commissioners are elected at-large. The terms are staggered such that four people are eligible for re-election every two years, with the three vote getters receiving a four-year term and the fourth place vote getter receiving a two-year term.
The Organizational meeting of the City Commission is held at 5:00 p.m. on the 2nd Tuesday in January following the regular city election. At this meeting, members of the City Commission elect a Mayor and Vice-Mayor to serve for the next two years.
