The Alma City Commission consists of a Mayor, Vice-Mayor and five City Commissioners. City Commission elections are held in November of odd years, with the next election scheduled for November 2013. All Commissioners are elected at-large. The terms are staggered such that four people are eligible for re-election every two years, with the three vote getters receiving a four-year term and the fourth place vote getter receiving a two-year term.
The Organizational meeting of the City Commission is held on January 2 following the November election. At this meeting, members of the City Commission elect a Mayor and Vice-Mayor to serve for the next two years.

Meetings are on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 6:00 p.m. with a work session at 5:30 p.m. All meetings and work sessions are open to the public. City Commission meetings are videotaped and replayed on Public Access TV. The are also available for video streaming by following the link on the left of this page. All City Commission meetings have time available for public comment. The City Commission may go into executive session to discuss litigation, purchasing property, and personnel matters; however, the Commission can only take action in an open public meeting. |
